High levels of cholesterol can be due to the following Reasons:


Highly saturated fat,trans fat and cholesterol can be high cholesterol.Saturated fat and cholesterol are made in animals such as meat, milk, eggs, butter, and paneer. Trans fat is found in fried foods and packaged foods such as biscuits and chips.


Being overweight,triglycerides can increase and LDL(bad cholesterol)may also increase.


Lack of physical activity can increase LDL(bad cholesterol).

4.Age and Gender:

After 20 years of age your high cholesterol progresses naturally. In men, cholesterol levels usually decrease after 50 years of age, whereas in women, it is very low till menopause. Then it increases like men’s level.

5. Some Diseases:

Some diseases may increase the risk of high cholesterol such as hypothyroidism, chronic kidney disease and some types of liver disease.

6. Some Medicines:

Some medicines can also increase the level of LDL (bad cholesterol). These drugs include thiazide duratics, beta-blockers, estrogen and cortisosterone.

1. Blood test called lipid profile should be done every 5 years after the age of 20.
